We are all working toward some goal in our lives… spiritual, family, career, personal, weight, exercise, to read more, to sleep more, to save money, to go on vacation, to do something!!! Busy people are always trying to DO something. That, after all, is why we are so busy! right? But, is what we are trying to do… what we are trying to work towards… is it impression or impact that we are making?
I often ask myself this question at work, but from a personal perspective, I need to ask as well. The choices I’m making on how I take care of myself, my family… the food I’m eating… is it making an impression or impact? What is the purpose behind my actions?
For many years, I was so consumed with things that either was outside of my control (even though I tried SO, SO! hard to control them), or I was making so much personal sacrifice for something that left me empty, and in a place that I couldn’t even recognize myself.
My exterior was a direct correlation to my interior. So what impact can I have on my family, or those around me, in this condition? The answer is: maybe very little. Sure I left an impression… That impression, hmmm… maybe was that I was unhealthy, or super stressed all the time, or unhappy, or constantly frazzled, or lacking confidence, or that maybe I didn’t have it fully together, that I cried a lot, or that I lacked interest in certain things, or that I don’t care for Susan as much as I care for my job… WHOA! Stop the bus!
So what is my purpose? God’s expectation for us all is to make an impact, to use our spiritual gifts to glorify Him. That goes right along with the way we take care of our selves, inside and out. The first steps were incredibly hard. ….But, what I’ve come to realize most of all is it’s about progress. Each day, it’s about progress!
Less than a year ago it was hard to walk up a flight of stairs. Every day I woke up and something new hurt. Today is a new day, and I realize that I’m back on the path I need to be on… and it’s liberating.
Let’s continue to make an impact in our lives by making choices that allow us to make progress in some aspect. Regardless if it’s physical, emotional health, being a better person, helping someone in need, spending more time with your family, becoming more active at church… choose to make an impact!
Ephesians 2:8-10: For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.
What we do today is creating our legacy for the future. The smallest of tasks should be looked at as meaningful. Let’s continue to move through life with purpose, and quit checking boxes!
Let’s be FIT, inside and out! #namastefit
